C-17 Conducts Flight Test With Biofuel.
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFNS): The Air Force's ongoing alternative fuels certification efforts reached a new milestone Aug. 27 when a C-17 Globemaster III from here flew on all engines using jet fuel blended with a combination of traditional petroleum-based fuel, or JP-8, biofuel derived in part from animal fat, and synthetic fuel derived from coal.

The newest electric aircraft to take flight is a tiny airplane from a big airplane company. The Cri-Cri, developed by Airbus' parent company, EADS, made its first flight Thursday at Le Bourget airport near Paris.

Indian Govt Clears $5-Billion Airplane Purchases.
Boeing bags bulk of aircraft sought by LCCs. The government has cleared the acquisition of 46 new aircraft worth over Rs 19,000 crore by three low-cost carriers: SpiceJet, IndiGo and Jet Lite. The new planes will arrive in a staggered delivery schedule beginning November. The acquisitions were cleared on August 30 at a meeting of a civil aviation ministry empowered committee.

A cargo plane has crashed after take-off near a motorway in Dubai, killing two crew members aboard, officials say. The plane, operated by the delivery company United Parcel Service (UPS), crashed near the Emirates Road.

The British have invaded Bay St. Louis, Miss. There, a team of British and American engineers and technicians are working to restore a British Aerospace Lightning back to flying condition. Unmanned aircraft added to accident reporting requirements
The new rule, published Aug. 25 in the Federal Register, requires reporting of accidents involving unmanned aircraft in which a person is killed or seriously injured, or the aircraft has a maximum gross takeoff weight of 300 pounds or greater and sustains substantial damage. AOPA supports the collection of this data so that the industry can better understand the impact of introducing unmanned aircraft into the National Airspace System.

Israel Set to Build Wings for Some 800 F-35s.
(Reuters): Israel is in talks to build the wings for about a quarter of the United States's new F-35 stealth fighter aircraft, an Israeli official said on Monday. Lockheed Martin currently plans to build some 3,200 F-35s costing about $96 million each. An Israeli official who declined to be named said state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries would build the wings.

Pentagon Chooses Two Companies to Build Flying Humvee.
Denver: The race to build the world's first flying military jeep just moved a step closer to the finish line. The Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has selected two companies to proceed with the next stage of its Transformer, known as TX, a fully automated four-person vehicle that can drive like a car and then take off and fly like an aircraft to avoid roadside bombs.
